Your Baby Is Going to Think It Was Blurry: Why Professional Portraits Are Important

In this digital age, pretty much everyone has a camera and forgets why professional portraits are important. Some have point and shoot models that fit in their pocket. Some make the investment in a quality DSLR. But many people – and parents especially – are relegating all of their memories to a crappy camera on their phone.

The fact is, it’s great to have a camera phone. I use mine just as much as the next. It’s convenient and it was probably already in my hand to start with. I use it for the little day to day things but that’s where it stops.

You see, our children are going to grow up confused. Here we have this technology to take beautiful pictures, and yet we opt to capture every moment in a blurred, low quality camera phone. These images are flat and lack the color saturation that we really see with our own eyes. The thing is, we’re destroying our memories, and in turn, our children’s memories.

Here, you’ll see a perfect example. These photos were taken a few days apart but the tones are all muted in the camera phone picture. You can’t see the color in his eyes or the warmth in his skin. This is exactly why professional portraits are important.

Baby G is adorable no matter what, but camera phone pictures don’t give him any real insight when he’s older. The picture quality is fuzzy and not something parents want to print or display on walls. On the other hand, the photos I took of the little guy have been printed and distributed to family and friends. Fortunately, his momma knows that professional photography is important (and was willing to let me share these)!
